Instead of having to call a tow truck or hire a mechanic every time you get a flat, it is a very useful skill to learn how to change a tire on your Toyota. To help yourself out, keep the right tools on hand, including a lug wrench, jack, and spare tire.
Anytime you are driving and notice you have a flat, you need to pull over. Try to pick a smooth, flat surface to change the tire, as this makes it safer. Remember to use your hazard lights. Start off by removing the hubcap so you can loosen the lug nuts. You may need to use some body weight to loosen them, but don’t take them off yet. Now it’s time to use your car jack, being sure to place it in the correct spot to prevent damage. If you don’t know where to place the car jack, talk to a Toyota expert. After the jack is secure, use it to lift your car around 6 inches.
Changing the Tire
Now you can take the lug nuts off completely using the lug wrench. Remember to pull the tire straight out and don’t lose the lug nuts. Now you can push the spare tire straight on, refasten the lug nuts, lower the car with the jack, and tighten the lug nuts completely.
